Hinsdale Renovation

Hinsdale

Romantic and family-friendly don’t always go hand-in-hand when it comes to interiors. When addressing this renovation of a Chicago suburban home built in the 90’s, our goal was to create a home that felt rooted in tradition while cozy,  casual, and just a little bit romantic—all while befitting a growing family with twin three-year-old twins.

Walls were removed to connect the kitchen and great room; fireplace surrounds were replaced; and wall moldings were added in the foyer and living room to make the rooms feel more grand and architecturally interesting. Built-ins were removed in the primary bedroom to make room for a sitting nook with antique mirrored walls and swivel arm sconces—creating a welcoming, enchanting moment.

We opted for clean-lined furnishings and accessories; and a subtle palette of grays and ivories punctuated with moments of green, blue, and pale pink. Outdoor fabrics were chosen to combat sticky three-year-old fingers; and balanced with velvets and linens. “We wanted to give our clients a home that felt timeless, romantic, and yet family-friendly; never fussy or rigid,” says Brynn. “The result feels like a cozy family home that is still bright, airy, and even ethereal at times.”
